Welcome to Early American Rug Hooking

We view traditional rughooking more as an art than a craft or hobby. Our goals are to offer quality rug hooking supplies to all rug hooking enthusiasts and to provide inspiration and, hopefully, initiative to those hookers that have yet to try traditional hooking techniques.

In addition to the traditional rug hooking supplies, we are now offering kits and hand-dyed wool for the primitive rug hooking artist (by popular demand!).  It is our hope that the beginner's kits will get someone that has never tried rug hooking "hooked!"

We also provide a section with free Rughooking Tips and FAQ s.  These are based on questions we have received. For instance, there are tips on calculating areas and thus the amount of rughooking fabric needed to complete the rug.  We are offering questions to frequently asked questions (FAQs).  The FAQs page is a living document with questions and answers added as we receive them.  So please feel free to ask your questions!

You may wish to visit our On-Line Rug Hooking Catalog to peruse our selection of patterns, kits, wool and hand-crafted rughooking hooks. Following is a brief description of each category in our catalog (to go to any of these categories, please click the link on the upper left):

• In our Go Green category, we have placed items that are composed of at least 50% of reused and/or recycled materials.

• The kits in our Rug Hooking Kits category are for traditional and primitive hookers. Each kit is hand-made and unique - we only offer one of each kit. Of course, we would be pleased to make a kit for any pattern we sell. Please contact us for additional information.

• In Rug Hooking Wool you will find both traditional- and primitive-style wool.  The wool is either hand-dyed or "as-is."  There are subcategories of rughooking wool, so please feel free to spend some time in this category.

• In the Rug Hooking Patterns category, we offer both original and vintage pre-stamped rughooking patterns. The patterns are meant for traditional and hybrid hooking although they can easily be hooked using primitive rug hooking techniques. Designs include florals, geometrics and other miscellaneous topics, such as pictorials and animals (when available).  From time-to-time, we may include purely primitive rug hooking patterns as well.  In addition, we try to keep at least one Pearl McGown pattern available at all times.

Early American Rug Hooking offers reproductions of E.S. Frost patterns through a license with the Maine State Museum. These are listed in a subcategory of their own - E.S. Frost Patterns.

In addition, Early American Rug Hooking has been selected by the Maine State Museum to reproduce color replicas of the same Frost patterns. The hand-painted reproductions are available through the Maine State Museum's shop. Quantities are limited, so if interested, please contact the museum for additional information.

Other Categories:

• We offer gift vouchers in various values. Purchase any gift voucher and send it to your rug hooking pal as a present. Details are available in the Gift Voucher FAQ page.

• Completed Items only include those rug hooking projects designed and/or hooked by Early American Rug Hooking. Again, the emphasis is on traditional and hybrid projects but there may be primitive hooked projects added as time permits. It should be noted that Early American Rug Hooking does not only make hooked wool rugs but some unique, useable items, as well.

• We offer a Clearance category. Here we have placed rughooking supplies that we got for a bargain and are passing the bargain on to our customers. Rug hooking bargains are getting harder to find, so this page may be empty from time to time.  We have also placed those items that we wish to sell quickly, so have slashed the prices.

A note for our international customers: we currently provide shipping rates for the U.S. only. International customers may contact us for shipping rates. As a reminder to all of our customers, Early American Rug Hooking accepts credit card payments through PayPal. The payment option is selected during the checkout process.
